TOF sensor and working principle

ToF: Time of flight. In fact, ToF is a method of distance measurement. ToF cameras generally need to use specific artificial light sources for measurement, that is, by measuring the "time of flight" of ultrasonic, microwave, light and other signals between the emitter and reflector to calculate the difference between the two. distance between. A sensor that can achieve ToF ranging is a ToF sensor. There are many types of ToF sensors, and the most commonly used ones are ToF sensors that measure distance through infrared or laser.

Using the ToF sensor to generate and capture data containing depth information, combined with the image sensor, you can obtain a 3D image. We call this camera composed of a ToF sensor and an image sensor a ToF camera.

The principle of the ToF sensor will be introduced in detail below. Let’s talk about the image sensor first. The imaging sensor accepts the received light of the same spectrum as the ToF sensor, and converts the light energy into current information for processing. The light entering the sensor has an ambient component and a reflective component. Distance (depth) information only goes into the reflective component. Therefore, high ambient components reduce the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR).

ToF sensors can perform functions such as pedestrian detection, user authentication based on facial features, environment mapping using SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping) algorithms, and more.

The TOF module is widely used for edge detection, close sensing, autofocus, precision ranging, and a maximum accuracy of 1 micron. Both consumer and industrial grades can be used.

How NFC works

Near Field Communication (NFC) is an emerging technology. Devices using NFC technology (such as mobile phones) can exchange data when they are close to each other. It is powered by non-contact radio frequency identification (RFID). ) and interconnection technology integration. By integrating the functions of inductive card readers, inductive cards and point-to-point communication on a single chip, mobile terminals are used to realize mobile payment, electronic ticketing, access control, mobile identity recognition, and anti-counterfeiting. and other applications.
